Menuka Thapa, the founder and Chairperson of Raksha Nepal; an organization fighting against rape that has been rescuing, protecting and rehabilitating sexual violence and rape victims for the past 19 years, has been honored with the "prestigious award JanaSewaShree".
The honor was conferred during a ceremony held on Friday at President house.
Raksha Nepal, established in 2004, has been rescuing underprivileged and at risk girls and rehabilitating them as worthy and free women in society. Under Thapa's leadership, it has succeeded in giving a new life to 8,659 women and 934 girls.
“Although I didn't get to experience the love of my birth father, I am happy to be honored by the father of our nation, the President,” said Menuka, “this honor has made me feel even more responsible.”
