Ms. Menuka Thapa, the founder President of Raksha Nepal, is being felicitated with 'National Social Welfare Award' 2023 amidst a grand ceremony hosted by Season Media on Tuesday 26 March 2024 in Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal Kathmandu for her unconditional social services towards transforming the lives of voiceless girls and women affected by sexual exploitation, abuse and violence. The award was jointly presented to her by the guests of honor Hon. Indira Rana Magar Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives and Hon. Ram Hari Khatiwada, Chair Person of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the Parliament. Also present was Mr. Pradeep Raj Wanta, Presient of Season Media.

Ms. Thapa, who became parentless at her early childhood and experienced neglect from the family members and abandoned her home at the age of 17, had to wander many restaurants and bars for earning bread by entertaining the guest though her vocal songs. During that time she witnessed not only physical, mental and emotional exploitation of young women and girls in the adult entertainment sector, but also the forced prostitution. Being frustrated of such slavery like condition, she became rebellious, bold and fearless to raise her voice against those inhuman behaviors. She led other two young women to be organized and start a campaign for the rights and protection of the victims of the modern day slavery. Hence, Raksha Nepal was born in March 2004. Since then she has been persistently devoted to serve those women and girls who are the victims and survivors of GBV and modern day slavery, and those who are at risk of such violence and servitude. Under her esteemed leadership, now Raksha Nepal has a glorious history of providing rescue, protection and rehabilitation services to 7,660 women and 935 girls till to date.
