Government of Nepal awarded Ms. Menuka Thapa

On the occasion of 40^th National Social Service Day, founding President of Raksha Nepal, Ms. Menuka Thapa has been awarded by Government of Nepal through “Social Service Award, 2019”.

At a grand ceremony organized in Kathmandu, Ms. Thapa was jointly awarded by Honorable Vice-President Mr. Nanada Kishor Pun and Honorable Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizen Ministry, Ms. Tham Maya Thapa. The Government of Nepal recognized her commendable efforts against sexual harassment, rape and human trafficking since past sixteen years and hence honored her with Twenty-One thousand cash, copperplate certification and a shawl.

After receiving her award, Ms. Thapa commented awarding her signifies that Government has recognized the social issues that she has been working on, as well as against sexual based violence, rape and human trafficking.

Ms. Menuka Thapa established Raksha Nepal when she was a 20 year old young girl and has been actively working in awareness against sexual based violence, rape, human trafficking and protecting those who are victims and/or affected by violence. This campaign which started on 2004 has now been nationalized, and till date in cooperation with Nepal Police, National Child Welfare Council, Department of Women, Rural-Municipality and other Municipalities, Raksha Nepal has rescued, protected and rehabiliated 4,946 women and children who were victims and/or affected by violence.
