Place: Mahendrajyoti V. D. C., Karthumka Village, Kavrepalanchowk
The first relief mission from Raksha Nepal was to Kavrepalanchok on the 6th of May. A group of 9 people comprising of-
set off at 1 pm for a 35 km long road ride to Mahindrajyoti municipality. After a two hour ride, they reached the destination to find that most houses were completely destroyed and none were habitable. All the residents were crowded under one large cover, which too was unfortunately located on a hilly slope. The entire area was surrounded by thick jungles. There was no electricity or network connectivity. The route leading to the village was rough and very dusty. The closest hospital available was around 10 kms away. The villagers were relying on whatever crop they could salvage for food; despite that, many of the children were starved.Raksha Nepal was the first organization to approach the village. Since it is not very remote, therefore it had been overlooked. The relief material comprised of 30 kgs of rice, one litre of oil, one kg of salt, mats, tents, jeevanjal (ORS), biscuits and noodles. The material was planned to be distributed amongst 45 families; however a total of 60-70 families were encountered. Raksha Nepal is planning another visit to reach out to the remaining families. The relief work was very much appreciated, as was obvious by the tears of gratitude and blessings of the victims.
