Empowering women
Menuka Thapa’s dream of becoming a singer might have actually helped her to be the woman she is today.
At 29, Thapa has come a long way: Established a non-profit organization, Raksha Nepal, for the protection of women, two women’s school with 300 students, a woman’s shelter, an orphanage, a cooperative, and a polyclinic. And though her struggles have been masked by her success today, she said it would not have had been possible if it were not for those hardships.

Where the mind id without fear
Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear.

Thamel’s Underside
Many people see Thamel, Kathmandu as a tourist haven, packed with handicraft and mountaineering shops, hotels and restaurants. What the tourists don’t see is the other side of Thamel—an estimated 200 massage parlors, many of which front for other services, and exploit girls who have no skills to make an honest wage. The people who frequent these massage parlors are not tourists; they are Nepalis from all walks of life.
